System Noise

We’ve all dealt with it, we’ve all seen it, those computers that sound almost like a jet engine is taking off as you are trying to work away. What can be done about it tho? Generally the fans that come with systems are of a generic brand using ball bearings and they can be quite loud especially when the temperatures rise and the speeds increase. The other culprits are age, and dust build up, as it makes the fans get louder as they have to work harder.

The easiest way to deal with the noise is to replace the fans, most likely with units designed from the ground up for silence from companies like noctura, coolermaster, zalman, or thermaltake. This does not mean just the case fans, but also the one over your CPU, and possibly the one on your video card if you have a higher end one. Another option to help in the battle against noise is fan controllers. You can usually get one inexpensively that can control up to 5 fans, allowing you to turn down the fan speeds to lower the volumes, then increase it back up again if the heat increases from gaming or heavy processing. The good ones will have a display right on them to say what temperature things are so you know if you need to turn the fans up or not.

If you find you would like to silence your system, bring it in to us at the store and our technicians can evaluate the best options for you to get the volume back down to reasonable levels.
